Mark is trying to lose weight and is working out with his personal trainer. When she calls a break and goes to make a phone call, Mark decides to have a piece of chocolate. Unfortunately he’s caught in the act, and the conflict that ensues between the two involves violence, tears, personal revelations, and ultimate reconciliation – all in the space of eight minutes!

A tale of desire, weight-loss and chocolate, The Bar debuted at the Short and Sweet Festival in 2005 with Mark McCann and Guro Brand, directed by Terje Brand.

“Terje Brand's direction of writer Christopher Johnson's The Bar was a great example of a director grasping, then emphasising, the dramatic potential of a smart, snappy text. Johnson's characters, a rabid personal trainer and her chocolate-craving middle-aged client, are succinctly and convincingly realised by the two actors.”
Lenny Ann Low, Sydney Morning Herald, February 1 st 2005
